Momo with Chipeño

Here is a simple recipe so you can make your own momos:

Ingredients for the momos:

  • 250 g flour
  • 150g mixed vegetables (e.g. carrots, cabbage, spring onions), finely chopped
  • 200 g minced meat (optional)
  • 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 piece of ginger (approx. 2 cm), finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Water for kneading the dough

For the Chipeño Sauce:

  • 4 tbsp chipeño sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

Preparation of the momos:

  1. To make the dough, put the flour in a bowl and gradually add water to knead a soft dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the chopped vegetables (and minced meat, if using) with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt and pepper.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions and roll out into thin circles (approx. 10 cm in diameter).
  4. Place a tablespoon of the vegetable mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough around the filling and seal the edges well by making small folds.
  5. Cook the momos in a steamer or steamer basket for about 10-12 minutes until the dough is cooked through.

Preparation of the chipeño sauce:

  1. Place the chipeño sauce in a small bowl and mix with soy sauce and rice vinegar.

Serve:

  • Serve the steamed momos warm with the chipeño sauce for dipping.
