Chipeño X Too Good To Go: Together for less food waste

Dear Chipeño fans,

We are proud to work with Too Good To Go and hope that this partnership will do something to make a positive contribution to combating food waste.

  1. The claim with the label “often good for longer” on our products

We are firmly convinced that food is often good for longer than the best-before date suggests. That's why we decided to use the label "often good for longer" on our products to indicate that these items can often be enjoyed long after their best-before date has passed. This decision reflects our philosophy of reducing food waste and promoting appreciation for food.

  1. How to check whether a food is still good or not

One of the most common questions we receive is how to tell whether a food is still edible or not. It is important to use your senses: seeing, smelling, tasting. Visual changes such as mold formation or discoloration are a clear sign that a food should no longer be consumed. The smell test can also provide information - unusual smells indicate spoilage. When it comes to taste, you should be particularly careful if the product has developed a sour or bitter taste.

  1. Which foods are tricky to eat after their expiration date

While some foods are still safe to eat even after their best-before date has passed, there are also products that require special caution. This primarily includes perishable foods such as raw meat, fish, dairy products and fresh products such as salads and cut fruit. Here it is advisable to strictly adhere to the best-before date or to use the test methods mentioned above.

  1. Which 3 points you can easily use to make products last longer

To keep food fresh for longer and thus reduce waste, we would like to give you three simple tips:

  • Storage: Make sure to store food properly. This means storing them in a cool, dry, and dark place to extend their shelf life.
  • Proper packaging: Use airtight containers or resealable bags to protect food from air and moisture. We use a plastic bottle here to minimize air contamination as much as possible.
  • Preservation techniques: Use preservation techniques such as freezing or pickling to make food last longer. Chipeño cannot and should not be frozen.

Chipeño as stock:
Chipeño bottles that are still closed are best stored in the cellar, where it is always a little cooler and ideally there is no light.

When the bottle is opened:
Bottles that are already in use should be stored in the refrigerator when not in use. You should also make sure that no contamination occurs via the lid. For this reason we use a plastic bottle with a silicone cross opening. Unlike a glass, the sauce is protected from “dirty” air in the best possible way. The air also dries out the sauce, which no longer looks visually appealing. It's best to put the sauce in a bottle on the table and not in a bowl. Make sure that the bottle is not exposed to high heat or direct sunshine when grilling, then your Chipeño will remain edible for a long time. Then it is OFTEN GOOD FOR LONGER

We at Chipeno.ch are grateful for the opportunity to work with Too Good To Go to make a modest contribution to reducing food waste.
